An Excellent Summary Of Seminary Pros And Cons

By Kenneth Wright

Going to a theological school is a good way of knowing more about the religion and what to do as a priest. Many people who want to become priests go to the schools to understand the teachings of various scholars as well as get trained on various things about a given religion. However, there are seminary pros and cons that one needs to understand before enrolling into one. The discussion below has provided a brief summary of the advantages and disadvantages of going to a theological school.

Attending seminars in these theology training centers makes you read a lot. There is a lot that has been written in history about religion. Thus, when you are in the college, you get to read a lot about the history of the church, biblical commentaries, and other classic theologians. These materials provide a broad understanding of the beliefs in a religion and the practice in the ministries.

The learners in these schools have questions about their religion that would like to get answers. These answers cannot be found anywhere but in a theological school. This is because there are scholars and other professors who use their time to research on various things in the religion. Such people will provide you with all the answers to the tough questions that you may have.

In the seminaries, you have to write substantially which improves your writing skills. Instead of talking about your thought precisely, you are presented with essays and projects to write. This enables you to articulate all your thoughts. Here, you can express them in writing. This is a good way of providing a point of reference even in future.

Many people have different beliefs regarding religion. While training at the seminary, you may be in a position to understand and accept diversity. This makes you embrace the thoughts of other individuals and understand them better. It gives you an opportunity to interact with many people and view things from a different perspective. Your relation skills with other people will greatly improve.

On contrary, going to the seminary has its dark side too. You may experience stress from the loads of work you have to handle in a day. In most cases, you have to spend most of your time studying or listening to the professors such that you do not have enough time to mingle or do other personal things. This, in turn, can cause psychological problems.

Then again, the training can challenge the beliefs you have had from the beginning concerning a given religion. You can be challenged when you try to convince another person without having a strong foundation on your beliefs. If you do not have the wisdom to answer all the challenging questions put forward, you might find yourself having more questions and doubts on your side.

Studying in the seminary for a long time causes a person to lose touch with the outside world. The time spent in the institution will be spent on reading and writing. You will be in institutes that teach certain beliefs. In a seminary, the teachings provided are followed strictly. Issues handled at the institution handle religious matters hence if you have issues relating to other matters, you may not gain the help needed.
