Online Marketing Companies & The Podcasting Do's And Don'ts To Know

By Rob Sutter

Technology, sports, business; these are just a few topics that fall under the umbrella of podcasting. Not unlike the radio shows we tune into during our regular commutes, podcasts are designed to cover a number of topics and offer unique perspectives on them. You might be inclined to start your own show, but online marketing companies will tell you that it requires effort. To make this process easier, keep the following do's and don'ts in mind.

DO create an idea to work from. If you're going to start a podcast - and the likes of www.fishbat.com will agree with this - make sure that you have an idea in mind. What is it that you're trying to speak about or cover? Do you want to focus on technology, sports, TV, or some other topic that an online marketing company can draw attention to? Whatever the case may be, if you don't have even the simplest idea, your podcast won't be as successful as you'd like.

DON'T ignore your audience and what they're looking for. When someone tunes into your podcast, chances are that they will do so to consume specific content. If you're running a tech-heavy show, for example, you're not going to want to get into topics like food or travel too much, since they don't relate to the show itself. They may also turn away listeners that can get their content elsewhere. Knowing your audience will make your show more successful.

DO spend as much as you deem necessary. Let's say that you're running a podcast for hobby reasons; you may not need much more than a microphone, a free recording service, and a platform to host your episodes. Let's say that you want to make this a career, though; you're going to have to spend much more. It costs money to keep track of statistics and analytics, so be mindful of the costs that you'll be likely to cover.

DON'T forget to be consistent. One of the worst enemies of any podcast is extended time off. While it's normal for a show to take a week or two off, anything longer than that can result in decreased listenership. Furthermore, if you're focused on building your SEO, a lack of content can hurt your rankings. In order to make your podcast as successful as possible, a consistent output of content is recommended.
