The Ten Basics Of Photography

By Hedrick Lepsch

Photography is becoming more and more accessible for people all around the world especially with the technology that allows you to snap sweet pictures on your phone. With this convenience people are able to be in the right place at the right time. With that being said there are a lot of people who have no clue as to how to take a picture that is aesthetically pleasing and captures the attention of others. So here are some basics to think about when you take your next picture.

First- In your mind cut the picture into thirds both up and down. This will create nine identical squares that you can create better balance and harmony in your picture. Some cameras do this for you so you don't have to do it in your mind. Second- Be careful about how off center your picture is. Yes, you do want to make it more interesting but just like the tip above explained, it is important to have that balance.

A great way to keep everyone informed about the issues of social media is to keep the lines of communication open between you and your children. Your children will only come to you to talk to them about the computer if you present them with a friendly demeanor and a nurturing presence. Talking to your kids about social media websites because it goes you the opportunity to find out why they use these sites. Some people like to keep up with the latest gossip about the most popular girl in school.

Fifth- Finding new angles and views for a certain picture is a way to create visual enhancement. Much like a journalist who is finding new interesting angles for a certain story, photographers can take something ordinary and make it epic just by using the right viewpoint. Sixth- It is obvious to most that background is a big deal but sometimes we don't think about how contrasting colors can really draw the eyes in or pull them to a desired location. Seventh- Depth can be created by making layers in your pictures. Having different objects, landscapes, or animals at different locations can create depth that draws added attention from viewers.

Eighth- Have the surrounding scenery emphasize the main object. This is called framing and will help enhance the object of interest. Ninth- Cropping is a valuable tool whereby we can emphasize something that would otherwise be lost. This can be done by enhancing the details of the subject you want to emphasize and then eliminating the background loudness.

Tenth- Experimentation is always valuable in and of itself. Even though there are some basic things you can do to increase the viewability of your pictures, there really is no strict rules to how you should take pictures. Getting an education in photography can still enhance these skills and help you on your way to experimenting with your pictures.
