Cloudmagic Amps Up Mobile Gmail Search

By Cornelius Nunev

Desktop and laptop search for Gmail, contacts, calendars and more, even in the cloud, is not something new. But when it comes time for you to search via cell phone, Gmail search is lacking in speed and capability. With CloudMagic, however, cloud search across several platforms via mobile is easy.

Using the new CloudMagic

Larger devices have had access to CloudMagic for a while now. It just recently made its debut in the mobile market. With the cloud OAuth technology, you can access contacts, calendars, Twitter, Gmail and even Google Docs. The move to the mobile industry came after CloudMagic started to consist of Twitter updates in the cloud computing.

As reported by TechCrunch, CloudMagic is actually "surprisingly fast." The service is much better than the built-in search feature found on smartphones, which is a lot like the Google Search mobile app, as reported by N.R. Chirag. Chirag is a CloudMagic and Bangalore Institute of Technology representative. The program could be found on both Android and iPhone smartphones.

"It is not only faster than native searches, it integrates your personal data across different online services. It is like one search box and you can search across all your personal data," he said. "Indexing Google and Twitter services is a start. There are many more to come. With the increasing online services, we believe one needs a fast integrated search."

According to TechCrunch, Greplin has more services to offer than CloudMagic including Dropbox, Tumblr and LinkedIn. This is why CloudMagic could have to add more services if it is going to succeed.

From browser plug-in to mobile application

CloudMagic made its startup debut as a Chrome and Firefox browser plug-in during the summer of 2010. At the time, it indexed Gmail and Google Apps user data. That plug-in still exists but is not needed for consumers to use the brand new smartphone application. However, the browser app now has access to CloudMagic search within Gmail and Twitter.

Type anything into search

You are able to search anything with CloudMagic. One example would be searching for "filename: pdf." This would search for everything with a PDF attached to it. It used to be that email search on an iPhone only allowed you to search the From, To, Subject and All sections.
